Z-AXIS Goes Live With New Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System in its Contract Manufacturing Facility Near Rochester, NY

March 25, 2013 – As part of its continuous improvement in contract design and manufacturing services, Z-AXIS, Inc. (www.zaxis.net) has implemented a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software system at its Ontario County manufacturing facility. The company has deployed the “Intuitive ERP” software package from Aptean, designed for manufacturers who must comply with regulatory requirements such as component serial number traceability, product configuration, quality management, and engineering change management.

At Z-AXIS, the new ERP system enables:

  • More detailed visibility into production processes, allowing the company to further optimize production flow, maintain quality, and reduce lead times.
More detailed and efficient tracking of labor and materials costs, allowing the company to more easily optimize pricing and profitability.
  • Increased use of electronic records, particularly for job tracking on the manufacturing floor, improving efficiency and allowing the company to reduce paper consumption by 75% .
  • Robust data analysis data analysis tools to enhance decision-making across all areas of the company, including planning, materials management, procurement, manufacturing, and finance.

“Over our company’s 23-year history we’ve developed some very specific processes that work well for us and give us a competitive advantage. In other areas our processes haven’t truly kept up with the changes and rapid growth in our business,” said Michael Allen, president of Z-AXIS. “As we configured the new system we took a fresh look at every process in the place. We found opportunities to streamline and optimize many areas, in some cases making dramatic changes where efficiency had been limited by the constraints of our old system.”

One reason for selecting Intuitive ERP was its flexibility, Allen explained. “The system gives us several ways we can accomplish a task and allows us to put together the flow that works for us, rather than forcing us to work around someone else’s idea of what a generic process should look like,” Allen said. “It lets us make better use of our own expertise, using modern and powerful software tools that will help us continue to grow and improve.”
