Lean Manufacturing at Z-AXIS
This video highlights recent Kaizen events that began with the entire manufacturing team participating in classroom training, then developing and implementing improvements in their own work areas to drive out wasted steps and wasted effort. (3:05)
Z-AXIS at AmCon Rochester 2016
It’s become a fun annual challenge at Z-AXIS to invent, design and build an entertaining and eye-catching demo product for a regional design and contract manufacturing expo. See how we did it! (2:00)
Humidity Control in PCB Assembly
In a printed circuit board assembly area, we like low humidity to protect the floor life of moisture sensitive devices (MSDs), but higher humidity to reduce the risk of electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage. Find out how we balance these two opposing goals. (2:49)
Prototypes: Consider Both Electronic and Mechanical
You will usually save time, have fewer headaches, and spend less money if your contract manufacturer can produce a fully-integrated prototype encompassing all the electronic and mechanical aspects. (2:20)
Z-AXIS at AmCon 2015
For a manufacturing show in Rochester we designed and built a miniature circuit board that randomly flashes and emits a variety of beeps, clicks and buzzes. Our design engineers had fun with it! Our manufacturing engineers used our UV laser to cut the boards almost exactly as small as the battery holder. (0:30)
Custom-Formed ESD Packaging
If your contract manufacturer is still shipping you PCB assemblies in little plastic bags, you should know there’s a better, more convenient, “greener” and often cheaper alternative: custom-formed ESD trays. Here’s how they are made at Z-AXIS. (2:38)
How SMT Component Packages Affect Manufacturing
As a contract manufacturer, we often work with SMT components supplied by our OEM customers. Sometimes buyers select packaging that makes sense from a component cost standpoint, but makes manufacturing slower, more complicated, more expensive, and more prone to quality or yield problems.
